Open Source Tools

20.07.2022

Many people are beginning to have access to simple 3D printing allowing consumers to produce their own simple tools and fixtures.
In the factory we’ve produced a few of these for our own staff and mechanics so we thought we'd open them up to you the consumers.
The tools range from simple travel pad spacers through to more complex bleeding fixtures and aids.

File type .3MF
Each suitable for single head printing unless other specified
Recommended material PETG
Print fill >70%

THIN PAD SPACER

Prevents the pads to come in contact with each other accidently when the wheel is removed.

Available for:
E4/V4 Caliper
X2 Caliper
RX4+ Caliper

Instructions:
Simply clip the spacer onto the pad pin clip, pull down to remove

Note:
E4 and V4 use the same spacer

Bleed Block
A brake bleed block that can also be used to stop the caliper pistons accidentally coming out when the pads have been removed.

Available for:
E4/RX4+ Caliper
V4 Caliper
X2 Caliper

Instructions:
Simply install the spacer instead of the pads and secure with the pad pin

Note:
Pistons needs all to be pushed into their bores.
Print fill percentage need to be above 70% to make sure the tool is stiff enough.
E4 and RX4+ use the same tool.

PISTON SERVICE TOOL

On 4 pistons calipers; allows a single piston to come out at the time to facilitate cleaning and lubrification.

Available for:
E4/RX4+ Caliper
V4 Caliper

Instructions:
The brake must be fully bled. Remove the pads, present the step in front of the piston you want to come out, install the tool instead of the pads and secure with the pad pin. Pump out on the master cylinder until the piston comes in contact with the tool.

Note:
Other pistons need to be pushed into their bores
E4 and RX4+ use the same tool

PISTON SEAL SERVICE TOOL

Before caliper seal replacement, allows the inboard piston(s) to come out so they are easy to remove.

Available for:
E4/RX4+ Caliper
V4 Caliper
X2 Caliper

Instructions:
The brake must be fully bled. Remove the pads, install the U shape tool over the front ‘half’ of the caliper body, making sure the thinner leg of the U shape tool is in the pad location.
Pump the on the master cylinder until the inner piston(s) come in contact with the tool. Remove the tool and gently remove the pistons. The outer piston(s) will be removed once bore caps are unscrewed. The caliper will be now ready for seal replacement.

Note:
Both inner pistons need to be pushed into their bores
E4 and RX4+ use the same tool

CALIPER ALIGNMENT TOOL

This tool is used to align the caliper with the disc.

Available for:
E4/RX4+ Caliper
V4 Caliper
X2 Caliper

Instructions:
Simply install the spacer instead of the pads and secure with the pad pin. Put over the disc and alternatively tighten the M6 caliper screws.

Note:
Pistons needs all to be pushed into their bores.
One side of the tool is for 1.8mm discs, the other side 2.3mm discs
E4 and RX4+ are use the same tool.

V4 Caliper Tuning Tool

This tool is recommended to achieve the best lever feel when using V4 caliper with 1.8mm or 2.3mm discs.

This is not required if using a 3.3mm vented disc.

Available for:
V4 Caliper only

Instructions:
Use this tool at the end of the brake bleed procedure. After pushing the caliper pistons back into the housing, swap the bleed block for this tuning tool.
Then pump the piston out until they contact the block. Finally top up the master cylinder reservoir with brake fluid as you would when finishing a normal brake bleed procedure.

Note:
This allows a slightly larger fluid volume in the brake when running with thinner rotors and will help to maintain consistent performance during hard use.
