From Germany: A Tech 3 Duo Story

28.11.2019

Earlier this month, as we were launching the Tech 3 Duo and shortly after a story from our friends at Gravity (www.gravity-magazine.de) dropped into our inbox we had to share.

It started with a regular call out for reader's bike projects and came back with a much more moving story. Sifting through their messages Gravity noticed images of a bike, that looked pretty cool, a perfect colour combination of yellow and purple – It was the bike of Sascha.

After seeing his ride, they wanted to know more, why was he building it, and where was he going to ride it (Lubeck is pretty flat) The answer they received was unexpected.

Sascha explained, a few years ago he had a sudden cerebal haemorrhage and was put into an artificial coma, during this time his heart stopped twice, and when he was taken out of the coma he could no longer walk or talk. He not only had to learn everything again he had no feeling in his right arm. This affected his riding and although he can almost bunny hop there is no chance of a wheelie. Why? because his right-hand slips off the brake lever and causes him to crash.

The story stuck in Markus' head, he wanted to help somehow, he then remembered meeting our very own, Robin at Eurobike earlier in the year. One product caught his eye the Hope Tech 3 duo – A brake caliper with two levers. Markus had a plan.

The next morning Robin received a call, Markus explained the story and the Duo levers were straight in in the post.

He was then straight back on the phone to tell Sascha the good news – he was speechless!

Since then, Markus and Sascha speak regularly and Sascha’s been riding a lot more and crashing a lot less!
