Dan's Duo Lever Story

Dan was born with one hand. His left is essentially just a wrist, so there is no grip at all. His right hand therefore, has to be master of any opposable action.
Which makes trail riding pretty damn tough. Enter stage, Duo Lever.
 
Dan’s Dad was determined that his son would learn how to ride a bike just like any other kid, so he did a lot of work trying to find bits out there and hand make solutions himself. He stumbled across one techy piece of equipment that worked for one-handed, mechanical brakes. It was never going to work with hydraulics however, and although Dan was able to pick up the fundamentals of bike riding, it was trail riding he wanted.

“Being me I throw myself into anything. There is nothing I weren’t doing, I just probably weren’t doing it as well as I am now.”
 
So, one-handed riding wasn´t a barrier to Dan, it was just a bummer. He was the perfect guinea-pig for Hope´s new design project.
 
Hope Technology´s designer, Maxine, also has a hand impairment so he understood the progression needed from Hope´s Uni Lever to a functioning Duo Lever. The design that Maxine and the Hope team came up with was revolutionary in what Dan can and can´t do now. Dan tested the original designs and with some minor adjustment feedback, made sure the product had great rider comfort as well as functionality. 

“It has massively improved my riding. I’m a million times more confident, especially on the trails, that´s where you can really notice the difference.”
 
Fair to say that it is not a huge market that Hope are looking to tap into here, in Dan´s words 

“Hope are giving something back to the sport for people who want to get involved.”

The design is derived from the proven Tech 3 Master Cylinder with the finger reach and bite point adjustments on each lever, you can be sure the levers will feel comfortable and suit your riding style. It differs from our Uno system as there is a total independency between the front and rear calipers. 

The master cylinder can be combined with either our X2, E4 or V4 calipers will suit any riding for XC to Enduro/All mountain.
It also comes in a flip flop design, ergonomic split clamp design meaning it'll work on the left or right and each front and back are two independent circuits for a safer operation.
