Hope gets a little adventurous...
Something a little different from our usual downhill, cyclo-cross and cross-country race reports, two of our supported athletes are set to mix with Formula 1’s elite in the 2012 Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge. Hope supported World Adventure Racing champions Myriam Guillot and Jacky Boisset, are taking part in the five day event (28 November – 2 December) in Tasmania which raises money for the Mark Webber Challenge Foundation.
The duo, who live, train and race together spend most of their winter in Australasia taking part in 24 hour mountain bike endurance events and adventure races. Myriam and Jacky (together Pure Tasmania) are competing as an elite pair in the event which starts in Launceston and finishes in Hobart. The race involves 300km of running, ocean and river paddling, orienteering, mountain biking and other secret activities. Webber explains the each stage has a special twist with details remaining secret until the morning of the race.
After winning the Adventure Racing World Championships in Tasmania last year Myriam and Jacky are prepared for the rough and testing terrain. “Before we came to Tasmania we have heard some people talking about bush walking, and we didn't know what it was - but now we know! The Tasmanian terrain was way too bushy for us!” Guillot said. “For us to come back in Tasmania, it's like a dream. When you are from Europe, Tasmania is one of the best destinations. It’s very, very wild and, in (the) same time, everything is close – the mountains, sea, and different forest…We like to practice all the sports, it’s more challenging and fun and that’s why adventure racing is perfect for us” said Guillot.
Let’s Hope Myriam and Jacky take the win again, good luck guys!
