Here at Hope our employees can often be found out and about at different events. Earlier this month Dart and Sam from our Sales team and “Crash Matt” from Machining went along to the New Quay Urban Downhill race with our good friend Guy Martin. Here’s what they had to say:
An early start and a four hour trek across Wales on Saturday the 3rd of November for the second New Quay Urban DH. The forecast was set to be rain all weekend. However it turned out to be quite fine except for the odd down pour.
The top section of the course was unfortunately out of bounds because it was too muddy and therefore the start was moved slightly. Even so, the rest of the track was enjoyable and flowed quite well. This year the council had allowed a couple of table tops to be used in the streets which added a bit more excitement when sprinting your lungs out down the streets. Practice went well on Saturday, with no spills, (not even for Crash Matt!!).
A fish and chips tea, a few beers, a brew, and in bed (the van!) for 10pm! Good boys, or is it because we are getting old?
The rain held off again for most of race day and we all had good first runs. The second run wasn’t as good for three of us and Mr Martin had a bit of an acrobatics moment over the first berm and ended up with a DNF. At finish Crash Matt had his best result of his season with a second in Seniors and Dart missed 3rd in Masters (again) by 0.3 of a second! Sam had a respectable 5th in Seniors and Guy came in with a 6th in masters, even with his spill.
We're looking forward to next year already!
