Hope supported Scotty Boom Boom Beaumont gave us a update from the first BMX British National held at the Manchester Indoor last weekend:
Well after Dave Richardson’s fantastic win at the Night Time Enduro a couple of weeks ago, it was Scott Beaumont’s turn to open up his 2014 race season at the weekend with Round 1 of the British BMX Series. As most of you know, Scott has a few challenges in his sights this year. BMX World Championships in July, 4X ProTour throughout the year and Gravity Enduro events here in the UK. He has set his goals very high for all races and after a superb winter of training, it was time to see where he was at.
Scott will be racing in just 2 BMX races this year. The first round of the British BMX Series and the World Championships.
As Scott spends a lot of his training time at the indoor Manchester facility, he felt really prepared for the race. With only 15 minutes of practice time allotted to Championship men, he had to hit the ground running! Practice went well and Scott looked fast out on the track.
So it was time for the motos. These are qualifying races for the next rounds. 3 motos would qualify 16 riders forward to the semi finals. Well Scott dominated the motos with two wins and a second place to qualify into the semi finals as the top qualifier. This would give him the vital gate choice for the semi final.
In the semi final Scott took gate one. He made a perfect start and led the race into turn one. Down the second straight he made a small mistake and lost a little speed. He was passed in turn two but then held on to take second and move into the final.
For the final Scott took gate two. He made a great gate and with a bit of bar banging on the first straight and in the first turn, Scott emerged in second. The chase was on. He closed the gap but by the finish line, Scott took second place.
At the finish, Scott was stoked: ‘this is the warm up for me ahead of the World Championships in July. It was great today racing against Championship men and I feel in great shape ahead of my Mountain Bike season and the World Championships. Great day at the races’.
Attached are plenty of photos for you all to use on your websites and social media.
The team’s next race will be round 1 of the 2014 European 4X Series and round 1 of the Schwalbe British 4X Series at Harthill, Cheshire, here in the UK on April 5th/6th.
Speak to you all after that race.
